We have added these options:
xwiki.authentication.ldap.update_user=1
xwiki.authentication.ldap.update_photo=1
xwiki.authentication.ldap.photo_attribute=thumbnailPhoto
in our xwiki.cfg as outlined in the LDAP Authenticator documentaton.
But, the active directory profile picture doesn’t seem to be coming across.
Has anyone seen something similar on xwiki v10.9?

The update helped.
But, it only worked when I added the settings to xwiki.cfg.
Is that a separate bug with the LDAP Application extension vs the LDAP Authentication extension?
The photo is now loaded at the same time than the other synchronized user fields so I don’t see why it would make any difference if the conf is located in the wiki or in xwiki.cfg.
). I think I just had configuration problem.
