I’ve been through both the pages and I am interested in working at lint implementation. I am new to open source and hence I’d like to know what should be my next step?

The next step would be to get familiar with XWiki development (1), you should also try the extension mentioned in the project idea (2). Then you should read carefully http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/GoogleSummerOfCode/Guidelines#HIncreasingyourchancesofbeingaccetedasastudent.
